Happy Birthday

Happy 13th Birthday Kindred!
(Ch Kyon's Rock'n Roll (1988-2003) X Ch Foxwood U'r Kyon's Spirit (1991-2004))

On October 5th/2007 one of our favorite girls of all time turned 13 years old: Now well into her 14th year Kindred (Ch Kyon's Kindred Spirit) is in great shape and excellent health, just slowing down slightly - as truly befits a lady of her age.

After completing her maternal duties Kindred moved away from us, at age 6. She now  lives with her "new" owner  Robert Lindsy Milne, where she is a beloved pet and loyal companion to Robert and his family..

It was enormously hard to part with Kindred -especially since we always had thought she would be our "forever dog"... However, one day I got a phone call from Robert, who was distraught after having lost his previous golden.. and with every intuition I had in my body I knew that Kindred would be extra-ordinarily happy in his home; and thus the decision was made to let her move..

One of the kindest souls we have ever known, Kindred loves to interact with people; always nudging your arm, for one more pat. She is also an incredibly sensitive dog who knows instinctively how to connect - even with people that are terrified of dogs. In  her own gentle way she can make anybody feel better: Kindred has mended many a broken spirit, as she has often been of tremendous use in many therapeutic situations... when she lived with us I often took Kindred to schools, group-homes or to seniors' facilities -- and these days she continues to play a special role, through Robert's work (psychic readings).

Kindred is also an influential bloodbitch for our breeding program; especially through her outstanding granddaughter Annie (Ch Kyon's Analyze This). Through Annie, Kindred is now in many pedigrees on both sides of the border - and even as far away as Mexico. At Kyon kennels we now welcome new generations of Kindred's great grandchildren...

We hope that Kindred will have many more years of happiness to come!

Thank you Robert for loving our girl with all your heart!

Happy 16th birthday to Fancy and Lucy!!

Fancy
Lucy

TWO  influential KYON girls have turned 16 years old:

Happy Birthday to Fancy and to Lucy!

On May 3rd 2007 we celebrated that Fancy, aka ch Hollymere Shea's Fancy at Kyon, turned 16 years old. In wonderful shape and with a tremendous desire to keep going, Fancy has survived several strokes, although she has never been sick more than a couple of brief days. Strong-willed as ever, she still takes great pleasure in every new day, happily strolling for various excursions around our property. During her many daily walks she frequently will stop for a rest under a shady tree -or she will happily indulge in a "refreshing" roll in the mud. As always she also tolerantly loves to nurture the many new generations of her descendants... Her trademark is to gently put up with any number of baby goldens, as they play with her tail and nibble on her ears, while she rewards herself by cleaning their plate of left-over puppy-kibble!

We are furthermore very happy to share the news that Lucy aka ch Kyon's Born Free has turned 16 years old, too. Her "forever-owner", Caroline Abel, reports that Lucy is still doing great. She is a little stiff at times, but is taking some basic arthritis-medication, which keeps her in good form -- and she still loves to bounce and roll! Lucy often run into her descendants at the neighbourhood park, where she often goes for her daily strolls. Not many people believe that this good looking and athletic golden girl is 16 years old. Caroline also shares that her family can't say enough good things about the joy that Lucy has brought them over the years, with her patient and kind temperament.

We are so proud of the great longevity and astounding soundness of these two modern-day Kyon foundation females. Fancy and Lucy are both hugely influential within the North American gene-pool. Many of the  pedigrees of our home-bred Goldens have either Fancy or Lucy - or both of them, somewhere in the family tree... a fact that bodes well for our future generations!

We are truly hoping there will still be lots of time left for us to enjoy our beloved girls... and we treasure each new day with them as a gift!

Fancy was bred by Kate McDermott and Denise Couture: Her sire was BDA/CAN BIS CH Mjaerumhogda's Kyon Flying Surprise CDX (OS) X Linchael Christmas Cracker. Fancy still lives at home at Kyon kennels.

Lucy was sired ch Saddelback Rechargeable Randall (OS) out of the dam ch Kyon's Whisper. Her happy retirement home is with Caroline Abel and her family.

Happy 15th birthday to Lucy!!

This spring our Lucy, aka Ch Kyon's Born Free (Ch Saddleback Rechargeable Randall (OS) x Ch Kyon's Whisper) celebrated her 15th birthday! Lucy is in amazing shape and great spirits... only slowing slightly down due to some minor issues with arthritis. She, however, still goes for her daily walks and happily greets the other dogs in the park - often times meeting up with her own descendants. Lucy is a hugely influential dam, through her son Romeo (Ch Kyon's Hot to Trot), her grand-daughter B-B (Ch Kyon's Glory Be Good) and her grandson Bugsey (Ch Kyon's Hot Bugsey).

A gentle, but mischievous dog as a youngster, Lucy used to take off on many a hike on her own - or with a buddy that she would entice along. Fences meant nothing to her - as she would climb over, dig under or chew right through. Electrical invisible fences also could not contain her. She amazed us with her unique intelligence - when she wanted her buddy to come along on any hunting excursion she would just chew that dog's collar off, so that this normally well behaved dog would also cross the invisible fencing, along with Lucy. Lucy would always return back home gloriously filthy and very happy. She was indeed named very well - Lucy was truly a free spirit in her young years... as are many of descendants.

Having settled well down in her retirement Lucy is now a wonderfully well behaved and patient family pet - who has brought lots of joy to Caroline Abell and her family. Thank you Caroline, for staying in touch and for giving Lucy all the attention she so richly deserves. May you still have a long time together!

Happy 13th birthday to Vicky!!

Ch Kyon's Magic Tricks

Vicky turned 13 years on May 25th and we would like to celebrate yet another strong Kyon golden entering her teenage years, in great health and fine spirits!

Vicky is amazingly strong - she still enjoys her walks along many nature trails. A playful golden, despite her age, she is always game for romping around with her grandson Charlie. She happily greets each visitor to her home, with a twinkle in her eye and a shoe in her mouth. She sticks around for many pats - and lives in the eternal hope that there will be a treat forthcoming soon. She is sunny and happy with her life - always smiling, a truly welcoming dog who enjoys the company of dogs and people alike.

Vicky is called "the princess", by her owners Ed and Anita McDougald and she has come by that title honestly - in her home she is indeed the princess - the one that rules the household with humour and benign demands. She especially barks to be fed, wanting her breakfast always at the break of dawn - and her dinner at 5 pm, sharp - with many treats in between. Dieting has thus become an impossible affair: Vicky is happily chunky in build and continues to be good naturedly indulged... and so life remains very good for the princess.

Happy birthday "Princess Vicky!" may you have many more years yet to come, full of wonder, fun and lots of treats!

Vicky was sired by Ch Kyon's Rock'n Roll out of the dam; Ch Kyon's Hocus Pocus

Happy 15th birthday to Fancy!!

Ch Hollymere Shea's Fancy at Kyon

Our old girl, Fancy, is still with us... and we treasure each day as a gift. On May 3rd we celebrated her 15th birthday. Fancy herself was thoroughly un-impressed with the extra attention, since it also involved getting groomed and bathed for the occasion. She was much happier with the extra goodies she was given as a special treat!

Although Fancy is a hunter by nature, she has still never harmed a living being. She once gently carried to us a wild kitten that she had found injured, she has brought us many a bird - and even the odd chipmunk - over the years.  These have all been delivered to hand without a mark on them. She is a true golden in that she has the gentlest of all mouths and the kindest of hearts..

In her old age Fancy has had several strokes, but she has always recovered well, within 24 hrs. Fancy has a bit of a head-tilt - and is stone deaf - but otherwise she remains amazingly healthy and well.  This girl of ours has an iron-will to keep on going... and she remains true to the independent character she always was. She wanders around our property at will, she still takes little excursions, at her own speed and sometimes with a slight stagger - and she still finds every mud-hole there is to roll in. If she gets tired, she takes a little break under a shady tree, but not for that long; she then picks herself up and carries on - perhaps to indulge in her favourite game of chasing our barn-cats. The cats lazily sits on the rail fences - just waiting for her to show up - then they will happily tease her, by darting here and there in front of this funny old dog who pretends to stalk them like the mighty hunter she thinks she still is.

And so Fancy remains in amazing shape. She is still as strong as a horse and  leads an active and full life, every single day. She is indeed the queen mother of our kennel and she happily adores babies of all kinds, whether they be children, kittens or little puppies - and she has taught generations of goldens to retrieve, to hunt and to swim in our pond.

Happy birthday Fancy - may you remain with us for a long time. We all love you so!

Fancy was bred by Kate McDermott and Denise Couture: Her sire was BDA/CAN BIS CH Mjaerumhogda's Kyon Flying Surprise CDX (OS) X Linchael Christmas Cracker

Happy 13th birthday to Trapper!!

Kyon's Adenac Trapper, Am JH, WC, CDX, CGC, Can WC, CDX

We recently celebrated Trapper starting on his 14th year, while still in excellent health and very good spirits. Trapper has been a wonder-dog his whole life through, always willing to retrieve those birds - in all kinds of weather - always happy to do whatever job is asked of him.

A true working retriever, we are so proud of Trapper and his outstanding abilities and his many working titles. Trapper is also a wonderfully kind dog. Tolerant in spirit and gentle in manner, he has helped raise the two Vaelholter children -- and with endless patience he has put up with his younger brother Elvis (Kyon's Hunk of burning love WC) many antics..

We rejoice over the fact that Trapper is still with us and surely hope this will continue for many years to come!

Happy birthday Trapper!

Trapper is proudly owned and trained by Vali Vaelholter.

Happy Birthday to Sheaman (15) and Fancy (14)

On May 1st /05 our very special boy Sheaman aka BISS Ch Sherhaven's Sheaman at Kyon CD (OS ) turned 15 years old, while only 2 days later (on May 3rd /05) his delightful half-sister and constant companion Fancy aka Ch Hollymere's Shea's Fancy at Kyon turned 14 years old.

We celebrate with gratitude these two outstanding dogs, who have both made such a tremendous impact on our breeding program. As we watch them remaining at each other's side, we are touched, beyond words. Sheaman and Fancy take excursions together, go hunting together, swim together and they lie down together; closely Shoulder-to-Shoulder- or gently  apart, but still always touching each other; Paw-to-Paw.

Fancy suffered 3 significant strokes this spring, but with Sheaman's help and insistent nudging, she was back on her feet within a few days. And so life continues on - with Sheaman, the eternal puppy, who still makes us all laugh with all his clownish ways- while Fancy, the stubborn girl, remains the same wonderful independent soul that she has always been.

Despite the strokes Fancy is still as strong as a horse and she will trot for quite the distance, while Sheaman happily follows her lead. Having always chased the barn cats, the two of them will forever pursue this game, much to our cats' amusement. It is a common sight now to see an orange cat  playfully darting here and there (at a respectful slow pace), just a couple of  feet in front of Sheaman and Fancy. The cats will stop and wait- whenever they can see that the dogs have to rest- and the game will then be suspended for little while, only to resume once more - when Sheaman and Fancy again decide to take up the chase.

And if there are no cats around, then there are Geese and Turkeys and Pheasants to pursue- but alas; never to catch (anymore). These many excursions are then routinely followed by a swim in the pond and a roll in the mud...

So life is good is good for our dear old guys.. and life is so precious... and we truly count every day with them as a blessing.

So Happy birthday Sheaman and Fancy! May you be around as our beloved pets for a long time to come!

Sheaman was bred by Liz Sherren. His sire was Bda-Can BIS Ch Mjærumhogda's Kyon Flying Surprise CDX (OS) and his dam was Ch My Darling Clementine.

Fancy was bred by Kate McDermot and Denise Couture. Her sire was Bda-Can BIS Ch Mjærumhogda's Kyon Flying Surprise CDX (OS) and her dam was Linchael Christmas Cracker.

Happy 17th birthday to LADY, Ch Kyon's Lady Madonna

In her proud owner's, Dave Bennet's word;

"Well, she did it... Lady turned 17 years old on May 3/05 and she is still enjoying life. Wow! She is such an amazing Golden... and she continues to amaze us.  Lady is still energetic (when she wants to be) and she makes sure is in the middle of any gathering or party, always looking for center stage.

She definitely doesn't look or act her age… she think she is much younger.  If you were to see her when the pizza guy shows up at the house, you also wouldn't believe she is 17.  She dances and spins around like a puppy, just waiting for the pizza (skins) crusts.

Lady truly has the heart of a champion and she has been a significant part of our family and neighborhood these past seventeen years...  We hope that she will be with us for a long time to come."

Lady is loved and owned by the whole Bennet family, plus the new Kitty in their household...

Happy Birthday to the Sweet and Grand Old Lady, who indeed has the heart and spirit of a much younger dog !!!

Lady was sired by Ch Kyon's Super Trouper (OS) and her dam was Ch Kyon's Lucy in the sky

Happy 13th birthday to CASEY, "the KING";  BISS Ch Kyon's Magic Power CD

On April 25th we celebrated Casey's 13th birthday. As he is now entering his 14th year, he is following in the footstep of his father Ch Kyon's Rock and Roll OS (1888-2003) and his mother; Ch Kyon's Hocus Pocus  (1988-2002), by still displaying an incredible Zest for Life.

Casey spends his days going for many walks through trails and bush. He still loves to chase the porcupines and squirrels and is intent on keeping his property free of such intruders. He also rules his own little golden pack (consisting of Vicky and Charlie) with his kind benevolence.

Some of Casey's many achievements include; being a wonderful therapy dog, getting in Companion Dog title easily, achieving his championship in a snap AND the one and only time out as special he won a Best In Specialty Show, from the veteranclass, at 9 years of age!

We are so very proud of Casey and thank his owners Anita and Ed McDougal for having given this wonderful boy such a fine home, where he has been so very happy his whole life through. Despite his many noble achievements, Casey is first and foremost a most beloved family pet.

Happy birthday Casey! May you have many more good times ahead of you!

Happy 13th Birthday Eddie!

On December 3/04 we celebrated Eddie's (Ch Foxwood Xtra Edition at Kyon) 13th birthday. As he is beginning his 14th year, Eddie  is in super shape and great spirits. He is happily living the life of a beloved house-pet in the home of his owners; Ann and Stephen Loch.

Eddie has become a foundation-sire for their AON Golden retrievers and he is also a rather influential sire in Canada. Eddie's offspring has gone on to earn several obedience-titles, as well as many conformation championships.

We are so proud of Eddie and we hope he continues to bring much Joy and Laughter to all that meet him, for many years to come...

Thank you Ann and Stephen for giving this charming boy of ours such a wonderful home!

Eddie was bred by Ann Wood Johnson of Foxqood reg'd. his was sired by Ch Saddleback Rechargeable Randall out of the dam Ch Foxwood Platinum gold

Happy 12th birthday Trapper !

On july 2nd/04 we celebrated Trapper (Kyon's Adenac Trapper, Am JH, WC, CDX, CGC, Can WC, CDX) as he is starting on his thirteenth year in excellent health and very good spirits.

In his owners Vali Velhoelter's own words:

"Trapper the Wonder Dog" still going strong at 12 years old. Although we have to talk a little louder to him, his is getting along in his senior years quite well. He still loves a run on the beach and a swim or 2 or 10...can't keep him out of the water!  He also still gets excited when he sees the bumpers come out or camps behind the thruck when he knows we are going somewhere and refuses to be left behind!

We got Trapper as a "pet" and this truly Golden Retriever has become so much more...he is my faithful companion and is loved everywhere he goes. And he has been lots of places, including 2 guest appearances on TV shows!

Trapper has always been a very gentle and loving dog. He has done well in obedience as well as in the field and has proved there is little difference in fetching a duck in the warm Florida waters (besides Mom worrying about the Gators and the snakes) or in the icy Canadian ponds (with Mom bundled up and barely able to see out of all the clothing)... always eager to please and very proud of himself as well!

We can only hope he continues to be healthy, happy and the "wonder dog" he has always been.

We are so proud of Trapper and all his accomplishments and offer our sincere thanks to Vali for training him so well- and thereby letting him make use of his many talents.

Happy birthday Trapper! --- As you enter your teenage years, may there be many more good times to be had and many more birds to be fetched!

Trapper's sire was Ch Saddleback Rechargeable Randall (OS) (1985-1997) and his dam was Ch Kyon's Miss Shalamar (1985-2000)

Ch Kyon's Lady Madonna

 Guess who just turned 16?

On May 3rd, 2004, "Lady" (Ch Kyon's Lady Madonna) turned 16 years.

in her owners words:

"Lady is doing very well.  She's is truly an extraordinary dog and loved by everyone and she knows it!

She still delights in daily walks. Although a little slower and now going for only shorter distances, she especially takes pleasure in walking through the woods behind our Crescent.

Lady is in exceptionally good health for her senior status and she still loves getting in the middle of any gathering, party or whenever any family-members are just playing around.

Lady has been an amazing dog and an important part of the family and neighbourhood these past sixteen years. We are all so proud of her.”

Lady represents all that we strive to accomplish with our breeding program, she is a beautifully structured dog with superb type, who got her championship with ease, but most important of all: she is of rock-solid temperament and is extremely gentle and laid-back in nature.

The fact that she still is marvelously healthy - and going so strongly - at the advanced age of 16 years - is a testimony to her soundly structured body, her genetic background, but also in huge part due to her own unique love for life. It also speaks volumes about the exceptional care she has received, over the years, as a beloved family pet in the Bennet family.

We are so VERY proud of Lady and thank her owners Dave and Allison Bennet, as well as their children - for looking after Lady so well, for all these past 16 years... and for making her such an integral part of their family. We hope to have the privilege of having Lady still around for a long time!

Happy 16th birthday, Lady!!

BISS Ch Sherhaven's Sheaman at Kyon CD, OS

 Happy 14th birthday to Sheaman!!

On May 1st/03 we celebrated Sheaman's 14th birthday. The ultimate clown, he is still as playful as he ever was. This marvelous dog (with his strikingly handsome looks) continues follow in the footsteps of his long-lived ancestors. Sheaman, like his father (Shea) and his mother (Clemmy), has no idea that he is ever supposed to slow down with old age. Instead puppyhood seems if  to be returning in full force.

In marvelous spirits and in excellent health, Sheaman spends his days wandering loose, making the kennel-office his  point of frequent return - as he is convinced he personally rules over the whole kennel. Although Sheaman is a frequent visitor to our house, he is only content to stay in our home for a little while - before he has to return to the kennel, to inspect all that is happening there. Sheaman sees it as his job to welcome every new boarder or customer that enters our office and with his tremendous charm and perpetual smile he wins everybody over..

Although now starting on his 15th year,  Sheaman still has incredible stamina and a strong will to keep going. He still can retrieve for hours on end, hunt for any wild-life around - and he is still marvelously birdy. Sheaman has been known to catch many a bird in mid-air and he has brought us both a live pheasant and several live pigeons, caught in this manner. Although no longer quite able to do this feat, he still tries to - with tremendous heart and courage - any chance he gets. To cheer himself up when he fails at anything, Sheaman then often wears his feed-bowl on top of his head - or goes into my purse where he selects my lipstick - which he then partly eats and otherwise smears all over.

Always an enthusiastic dog, Sheaman still runs up and down stairs - hunts throughout our bush and swamp - and joins in the fun everytime any children play soccer or baseball.

Sheaman is a BIS winner and a GRCC outstanding sire as well as a multiple veteran and stud-dog winner at specialties. He has made a tremendous impact on our breeding program, through his many daughters and now through his son Sheaster.

Sheaman continues to bring such joy  and so much laughter to our lives - and we dearly hope to have him around for many more years to come.

Happy birthday to our 14 year old perpetual puppy!!

Sheaman was bred by Liz Sherren (Sherhaven reg'd)

Ch Hollymere's Shea's Fancy at Kyon

Happy Birthday to Fancy!!

On May 3rd/03 our beloved Fancy turned 13 years old. In the outstandingly long-lived tradition of the dogs before her, Fancy is entering her 14th year while remaining strong and healthy.

Fancy keeps incredibly active and is in fantastic shape for her age. Like all our seniors she has total free range of our huge farm property and Fancy often travels far and wide. Away she happily trots; into the bush and through the fields - following the scent of the deer - or on the hunt for any other wildlife.

Fancy is a sweet, but hugely independent soul - who generally does as she pleases.  Always a dog with a strong sense of self; now - with her advanced age - Fancy is even more determined to do exactly what she wants. Fancy's hunting instinct is as strong now as it ever was... and if she has picked up the scent of any wildlife she will always GO, regardless of how many times we try to call her back.  By totally ignoring us, she indicates that she has a far more important job to do.

We have reluctantly decided that her name has never really suited her, since she is nothing but a "Fancy" dog. She does not care about looking pretty or classy - but is a true tomboy; ready at any time to go hunting. She comes back, hours later; after first having gone for a swim in the pond, chasing the ducks and geese - and then rolling in the mud of our swamp - while finally she will have gotten  herself covered with burrs from the  fields.  Fancy is daily  in relentless pursue her arch enemy; the groundhog.

Otherwise Fancy, despite her strong-willed character, is also an incredibly kind dog, who gently will take any baby under her wing. This spring she delivered a badly injured wild kitten to us - whom she held ever so gently in her mouth: the young cat had a dislocated hip and was in bad need of medical attention. Furthermore any of our toddler grandchildren can go to sleep snuggling close to Fancy's side and she will not move, for as long as they are resting there. Always maternal in nature, she also has endless patience with any of  our puppies... and these youngsters she often introduces to water - and repeatedly shows how to follow a scent.

Through her exceptionally sound production record, Fancy remains a hugely influential broodbitch for our breeding program, represented by her son Fire (Ch Kyon's Great Balls of Fire), her daughter Brindy (Ch Kyon Brindy's Fancy notion ) and her grandson Bugsey (Ch Kyon's Hot Bugsey ), as well as her many, many  great-grandchildren.

We hope to have Fancy with us still, for many more years to come...

Happy Birthday, Fancy !!

Happy Birthday CASEY!!

On April 25th/03 we celebrated Casey's 12th birthday. As he now enters his thirteenth year, in the long lived tradition of his line, we pause to reflect on what a fabulous dog Casey is and has always been.

Although he was sold strictly as a pet, he nevertheless was a very unique puppy, with all kinds of potential. Casey proved us right and got his championship in short order, with a couple of  specialty puppy-class wins, before going on to finish with a 5 pt WD, BOW and BOB in stiff competition. Next; being easily trained and highly biddable, Casey achieved his CD and then he retired from the competitive dog-sport arena and went  back to his original function as a beloved family pet.

Mostly Casey is fondly known as His Royal Highnessthe King.  In his owners' Ed and Anita's household he is the senior and top dog of 3 happy and handsome golden retrievers. He "rules" his pack with a sense of both dignity and humour and has an affection for people and dogs that knows no limit. A sweeter and a kinder leader - nor a better companion nobody could have asked for.

Casey made one brief re-appearance in the show-ring, when he was 9 years old - as a veteran dog, in July of 2001, at our regional specialty. He stunned the people gathered around the veteran dog ring, who had never seen (nor ever heard of) this handsome dog before. It was a proud moment for his owners: Ed and Anita Macdougal, as well as for us, when Casey not only won the veteran dog class, but also  went all the way to a Best in Specialty Show, defeating many of Canada's finest and top-winning golden retrievers.

Now as he is starting his 13th year Casey still happily spends his time chasing the squirrels on his home-turf. He occasionally gets into mischief as he will also fearlessly tackle any other wild-life intrude on his kingdom, such as the porcupines. Casey is happy and fit - and we hope he will stay around  for many more years.

Happy birthday to the King!!

Ch Foxwood U'R Kyon's Spirit

HAPPY 13th BIRTHDAY, SPIRIT !!!

On April 5th we celebrated that our Spirit has now started on her 14th year in very good health and in excellent spirits.

We marked this day with particular joy this year, since we are so pleased to announce that Spirit has now recovered fully from an orthopedic injur , that she suffered last year.

The sheer strength of her character has shone through during her recovery-period. Never once did she loose the sparkle in her eye, never once did she appear to give up. Despite her considerable age and her obvious discomfort, she greeted each new day with strong determination.

She now again chases the tennis balls and baits forever, for any tid-bit. There is new-found strength and much joy in her steps these days; her recovery has been nothing short of spectacular for such a senior lady.

We are looking forward to many more years with a happy Spirit at our side!

Spirit was bred by Ann Wood Johnson of Foxwood reg'd goldens.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, SPIRIT and FANCY!

This spring we have celebrated the 12th birthday of both our most resident senior girls:
Spirit (Ch Foxwood U'R Kyon's Spirit*) and Fancy ( Ch Hollymere Shea's Fancy at Kyon*).

We are thrilled to report that they have now started on their 13th year in excellent spirits and very good health.

Spirit is our resident house-pet who keeps reminding us all that a golden's primary love for life is represented in being allowed to retrieve. Even at this senior age she can get the ball or the bird faster than most youngsters. The ultimate show-dog, we often use Spirit as an example in how to teach the pups how to stand and happily free-bait. Spirit is a multiple specialty veteran winner.

Fancy has by choice decided to be the resident senior kennel-dog.. but she wanders loose all the time and frequently is seen trotting down the hill, with some youngsters happily in tow. She is then on her way to the pond where she will patiently teach the babies that swimming is fun... and afterwards she will then show them all how to roll in the fields, so that they will return back to the kennel-enclosure in the muddy state that all golden retrievers prefer.

Spirit  and Fancy have both made tremendous impact on our breeding program through their many outstanding offspring and grandchildren. Currently a generation of great grandchildren is represented in our breeding program and we are  presently excitedly waiting for a new crop of great grand-children to grow up and add to our line.

In the oustandingly long lived traditon of our line we are hoping to have both Spirit and Fancy with us for many years to come!

Spirit was bred by Ann Wood Johnson of Foxwood reg'd Golden Retrievers.
Fancy was bred by Denise Couture and Kate MacDermot of Hollymere reg'd Golden Retrievers.

Kyon's Lady Madonna!!

On May 3rd this year Lady (Ch Kyon's Lady Madonna) turned 15 years.

 In her owner's word :

"Lady is doing very well.  She's still the Princess of the Street and loved by everyone...

And she knows it! Other than a little arthritis in her hips, she delights in her daily walks, still runs (although not as fast as she thinks she's going), has no problem with the few stairs in and out of the house and appears in good health for her senior status.  She's slow getting up and down, but never a complaint or a whimper from her.  Lady has been an amazing dog and an important part of the family and neighborhood these past fifteen years."

Lady is owned and loved by the Bennet family and we hope that she will be still be around
for a good long while. Happy birthday Lady, you wonderful old girl.
We are so proud of you.

Today, May 1st / 03, we are celebrating the 13th birthday of our resident eternal puppy Sheaman - Ch Sherhaven's* Sheaman at Kyon CD (OS) .

In perfect health and  following in the outstandingly long-lived tradition of his sire Shea (BIS Ch Mjaerumhogda's Kyon Flying Surprise CDX (OS) ;1981-1996) and his dam Clemmie (Ch My Darling Clementine ; 1982- 1998 ),  Sheaman seemingly has no idea that he is a senior and that he is supposed to be slowing down. He is, as always, full of infectious joy and displaying an incredible vigor for his age.

Sheaman  is still  the charming clown that has made it his life-mission to make us all laugh... He is often found parading around with a metal food-bowl on his head (his very own top-hat! Which, on his own accord, he frequently wears- once he has finished banging it on the floor, or on the walls - to make the loudest possible noises with.).

As Sheaman now is entering his 14th year, we pause to reflect with gratitude on how much he has contributed to our breeding program and also the wider Golden Retriever gene-pool in Canada. A powerful and strikingly handsome  dog, Sheaman is a Best In Specialty Show winner, a multiple Veteran Class winner and a multiple Stud-dog winner, at our specialties.

Sheaman's many offspring have done exceedingly well in all areas of competition, from the conformation ring (BIS) to the obedience ring (HIT) and as hunting dogs, as well as Therapy Dogs and Guide dogs for the Blind. His keen intelligence and his high trainability have been traits that Sheaman consistently has passed on to his pups... as well as his incredible sense of humour.

We hope to have our beloved Sheaman, the ultimate entertainer- around for many more years to come!

 * Sheaman was bred by Liz Sherren, of Sherhaven reg'd Golden Retrievers.

Can Ch Kyon's Vademecum Laddie
(Am & Can Ch Bachelor of Rye, WC, CD - Can Ch Kyon's Footloose'n Fancy Free, CD (OD))

Today April 1/03, we are celebrating Laddie's 16th birthday. Born on April 1st 1987, Laddie is in good health and in excellent spirits. He is a little hard of hearing, but otherwise in fine form. Sold as a family-pet, Laddie showed an exceptional promise for the conformation ring and quickly achieved his championship.

What truly however, sets this dog apart is his remarkable intelligence and his exceptional trainability. His dedicated owner Mark Whitcombe has used Laddie as part of an outdoor education program, where this dog has shone as an entertainer and has thus been delighting students with his many tricks and the twinkle in his eye. "Laddie can count! Laddie can pray!"

There have been no end to the impressions Laddie has made over the years. Hundreds of inner-city children, often petrified of all large dogs- have overcome they fears, thanks to the kindness and gentleness of Laddie. We send our congratulations and best wishes for continued happiness, for this sweet old boy and for his human family. Laddie is owned and loved by the Whitcombe family of Orangeville, Ontario.
